The Chicago Bears have been quite tight-lipped about their plans with the first-overall pick.
Most years, everybody around the league would be confident they would either trade down or draft a non-QB.
They already have a budding star at the position in Justin Fields, and they seemed committed to him.
However, with a potential generational talent like Bryce Young up for grabs at no. 1, some speculate the Bears should look to move on from Fields and build around the Alabama product.
That includes former NFL GM and ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum, who explained how the Bears could even get a first-round pick in return for Fields, and made a case for Young having a higher ceiling than Fields:
“Bryce Young’s ceiling is way higher than Justin Fields,” Tannenbaum said on ESPN’s Get Up. “My only concern is if someone like Chris Canty tackles Bryce Young. Beyond that, I think he [Bryce Young] has a chance to be a great player. I think Justin Fields has a chance to be a good player.”

There’s no denying that Young is a much better prospect, and he’s ranked way higher than Field was when he first entered the league.
But there are also some serious concerns about his size, as one hit could pretty much end his NFL career.
Also, Fields was quite solid as a dual-threat QB in the second half of last season, and he did look like a franchise quarterback during some stretches.
So, it seems like they couldn’t go wrong either way, which is a nice position to be in.
Nevertheless, this situation could create a rift between the front office and their QB, as Fields claimed that he would appreciate some honesty and transparency from the executives, something that hasn’t happened thus far, and will be something to keep an eye on in the future.
