As Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes gets ready for his third Super Bowl appearance in four years, it’s important to remember that his father, Pat Mahomes, pitched 11 seasons in Major League Baseball.
Mahomes spent most of his MLB career with the Minnesota Twins, but also pitched for the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 52-year-old will have the honor of seeing his son in the Super Bowl for the third time in his already legendary career.
But many years ago, Patrick tried his hand at baseball.
Of course, that didn’t quite work out, and his father explained why.
“His first practice he was playing shortstop, he threw the ball across the diamond and hit the 1B right between the eyes, broke his glasses so they told him to start throwing the ball three-quarters of the way and then it rolled there …” — Pat Mahomes on prodigy son Patrick https://t.co/n1zgna9poh

It seems that Mahomes was destined to become one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and that baseball was never his thing.
His arm was undeniably strong, but it got to the point where he almost took out his first baseman when making a throw from shortstop.
Then, when he dialed it back, things didn’t work out so well.
So naturally, the Chiefs quarterback was always destined to make long-distance throws as opposed to throws across the baseball diamond.
Fortunately, a career in football was waiting for the young star.
Now, he’ll compete for his second Super Bowl championship, with his father watching proudly.
Mahomes himself had a career ERA of 5.47 and a record of 42-39 over his 11-year career.
The Super Bowl will take place a week from Sunday as Mahomes and the Chiefs prepare for a collision course with Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.
