Cleveland Browns fans enjoyed one season without drama.
Yet it is all rushing back here at the start of 2022 and Baker Mayfield is in the center of it all.
Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot dropped a report Wednesday night about how Mayfield may be on his way out this offseason.
She cited objective stats and also reports from her sources.
That led Mayfield to respond in this way:
Clickbait. You and many other Cleveland local media continue to be drama stirring reporters with no sources or facts. Don’t put words in my mouth so you can put food on your table. I’m not your puppet. https://t.co/MfHnqWk65s

The Browns quarterback is going after one of the more prominent members of the Browns beat and seems to think she relies on clicks to put food on her dinner table.
There was no need to respond and now the floodgates are open as the team tries to navigate this situation with Mayfield.
He is now in a similar situation to past Browns quarterbacks, including Brandon Weeden.
Weeden’s name is in the spotlight again Thursday after he chimed in on the Mayfield drama.
Same stuff different year with her. She can’t help herself… https://t.co/sUJvgVx3kN

Browns fans are likely experiencing some tough flashbacks after seeing Weeden join the discussion.
Weeden Defends Mayfield
Weeden had a rough go during his time with the Browns.
He was a first-round pick in 2012, only to be released after two seasons with the team.
To be fair, he was on the Browns during a time of great dysfunction.
BRANDON WEEDEN FROM THE CLOUDS!
Can't wait for the tweets from Thaddeus Lewis and Bruce Gradkowski. #Browns https://t.co/wkGw6lsha5

But his play was bad and Cabot likely wrote about his struggles and those of the team in general.
Some fans and players seem to think that local media is supposed to only write positive stories.
But if a player is not playing well, doing that would simply be public relations.
Journalism is an entirely different field and it is foolish to call out media members like Mayfield and Weeden have done.
It serves no purpose and all of this could be remedied with better play on the field.
