It has been an eventful year for San Diego Padres shortstop/outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr.
He had a motorcycle accident during the lockout and couldn’t inform his team until spring training, because the terms of the halt said that players and teams couldn’t talk.
The player had surgery to repair a fractured scaphoid bone in his left wrist in March.
He had recovered slowly, but was getting ready to return in the second half when it was announced in August that he tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended for the rest of the season.
After the suspension, the talented infielder took advantage of the time off to have surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder, the one he originally suffered last year.
Multiple sources, however, reported that there was concern about how the repair made in the wrist surgery would hold up for the long-term.
A Follow-Up Procedure
Now, the Padres and the player decided to have a second procedure on his left wrist.
“Fernando Tatis Jr. underwent another wrist surgery, per @sdutKevinAcee. He is expected to be ready by the start of next season,” B/R Walk-Off tweeted.

Padres’ president of baseball operations AJ Preller explained to the San Diego Union-Tribune that this second wrist surgery does not affect Tatis’ timeline.
“We were expecting him to be ready to go for spring training. The timing of the shoulder surgery and the wrist follow-up surgery should line up with the same timeline. He should be able to go for spring training.”
The Padres are set to start their National League Championship Series journey tonight, against the Philadelphia Phillies in Petco Park.
Tatis will surely be watching, eager to be a part of this group next season.
