Fernando Tatis Jr. is obviously more of a household name than his father was, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about the man who introduced him to baseball in the first place.
The San Diego Padres began a series at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, one of the many teams that Tatis Sr. played for during his career.
During his time in St. Louis, Tatis accomplished a historic feat, hitting two grand slams in the same inning off of the same pitcher.
Sure enough, the Padres star busted out some must-see cleats for the series opener, featuring the headlines from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the day after his father’s grand slams.

Tatis certainly had some cool cleats on for Monday night’s series opener.
His father’s two grand slams are moments that will forever live on in Cardinals history.
They took place on April 23, 1999.
Tatis was not even a year old when his father accomplished this feat.
But of course, this was a one of the most legendary moments that took place in baseball history.
Tatis certainly learned a lot from his father.
And so, it was fitting that he had cleats featuring the headlines from the next day for his first game in St. Louis since September of 2021.
Perhaps Tatis will sport these same cleats for the remaining two games of the series to honor his father’s accomplishments in St. Louis.
The Padres won the series opener by a final score of 4-1 over the slumping Cardinals on Monday.
