MLB fans were eager to know who would be the cover athlete for popular video game MLB The Show.
Usually, a cover athlete for a popular video game is really, really talented.
More often than not, he is cold-blooded (in a good way), with flair, confidence, and charisma.
His teammates love him, and fans adore him, too.
That’s the prototypical cover athlete.
The announcement came on Monday, and the player embodies most, if not all of the aforementioned criteria except for perhaps continued, sustained top-end performance.
Let’s shock the system! 🎷😎

Miami Marlins center fielder Jazz Chisholm will be on the cover of the 2023 edition of MLB The Show.
His popular hair styles and looks, his burning speed, his prodigious power, his confidence on the diamond, and the fact he is the franchise player of a young, promising Marlins team made him a good choice to be the game’s most visible face.
Many fans didn’t hide their disappointment because they preferred other options, most notably Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez.
Jazz Chisolm is a pretty good player coming off a pretty good year on a bad team. Good but not Cover Material. Judge hit 62 HR, or if you wanted flair Julio or Lindor would be better choices. Better players who are very fun coming off better years on better teams. #MLBTheShow

However, Chisholm’s choice also had fans all over the Internet, specifically Twitter.

It will always come down to personal preferences, because MLB fans will always prefer to see their own stars on the cover before players from other squads.
Still, Chisholm is one of MLB’s fastest-rising players both in talent, production, and popularity.
He deserves to be on the cover, and many fans will buy the game regardless of who is the athlete shown there.
MLB The Show will be available for pre-order starting on February 6.
