Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder has become one of the NFL’s more polarizing figures, especially over the last few years as he has become involved in one controversy after another.
He has become embroiled in accusations of a toxic workplace environment, sexual harassment and financial misdeeds.
Snyder’s most recent misdoing has been his claim that he has “dirt” on owners of other teams and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Jim Irsay, the longtime owner of the Indianapolis Colts, said he feels Snyder should be removed as owner of the Commanders and that there is “merit” to doing so.
And there it is… Jim Irsay says #Commanders owner Dan Snyder should be removed as owner #NFL … added he thinks they will get the votes eventually … but today though #SportsBiz pic.twitter.com/CElZHk8WIS

Many fans are happy about Irsay backing the removal of Snyder.
#Commanders fans (myself included) when Jim Irsay threw shade on Carson Wentz all offseason: "Whatta tool Irsay is!"#Commanders fans (myself included) when Irsay became the first NFL owner to say there's merit to removing Dan Snyder as #Commanders owner: "Jim, you my dawg!"

Good for Jim Irsay for speaking out about this. And he’s 100% correct. Dan Snyder should not be allowed to own an NFL team. https://t.co/enlC6nCVWy

There are also those fans who have pointed out Irsay’s own personal problems, specifically his DUI and drug possession charges from several years ago, while also pointing out that those issues paled in comparison to what Snyder has allegedly done.
Jim Irsay is the perfect guy for NFL owners to speak through regarding Dan Snyder. There’s literally no way to create a retaliatory scandal around him. He’s already tweeted through it.

Some people have chosen to attack #Colts owner Jim Irsay for his comments regarding embattled commanders owner Dan Snyder. They point out his very public struggles and make fun of it. To those people, I’d ask you to check out what he’s done since becoming sober. #KickingTheStigma pic.twitter.com/GWcxNuqEgz

Although NFL ratings are on the rise after a dip a few years ago, there is no doubt the league does have something of an image problem.
Between Snyder’s controversies, the Jon Gruden incident last year and Deshaun Watson‘s sexual misconduct lawsuits and resulting suspension, it has some things to clean up when it comes to equal treatment of women, people of color and other marginalized groups.
Even if some choose to defend Snyder, one thing is for sure: The Commanders are a bad team.
They’re in last place in the NFC East with a 2-4 record and are the owners of an offense that is about as high-powered as a 1972 Chevrolet station wagon.
If they’re to return to the glory they enjoyed back in the 1980s and early 1990s, a total overhaul will be needed.
