The Houston Texans finally got their guy.
After years of working his way up the San Francisco 49ers’ coaching staff and putting together one of the strongest defenses in the game, former linebacker DeMeco Ryans will finally get a much-deserved chance to be a head coach.
The second-round pick out of Alabama will return to the organization where he spent the first six seasons of his career before joining the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that allowed him to finish his career in 2015.
He didn’t take a lot of time in retirement before taking his talents back into the game, joining the Niners as a defensive quality control coach in 2017.
DeMeco will take over Lovie Smith to try and turn the Texans organization around.
And while that will be much easier said than done, it’s evident that there’s plenty of excitement about this new era in Houston, as he was welcome with plenty of emotion within the organization.

The Texans have been poorly run for the past five years or so, which cost them most of their star players.
They now have a young core of budding stars that could turn out to be quite solid, and could take Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, or Wlil Levis with the second-overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft to finally find a suitable replacement for Deshaun Watson.
It will take them a while and it won’t always be pretty, but at least they’ll have a qualified guy leading the way and calling the shots from now on.
