The New York Mets have been having a strong season thus far.
At 54-33, they lead the National League East by 2.5 games over the defending champion Atlanta Braves and own the second-best record in the entire senior circuit.
They have been so successful thanks in large part to their lights out closer Edwin Diaz.
The veteran fireballer has saved 19 games in 22 opportunities and has posted a 1.73 ERA in 37 appearances.
The 28-year-old right-hander is also an All-Star this season and he is coming into the All-Star break hot.
One Mets insider tweeted about what Diaz has done over his last three appearances, all which have come on consecutive days.
Edwin Díaz pitched for three straight days for the first time in 2022 and he was completely dominant:
3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
He didn’t need more than 11 pitches in any of the outings.
He had 14 swinging strikes out of 29 pitches. Unreal.

Diaz Coming In Hot
Diaz is certainly worthy of being an All-Star.
Those stats are proof enough of how durable he is and has been all season long.
In three straight games on three straight days, he has thrown three innings and struck out seven hitters, all without having walked a batter, allowed a hit, or any runs.
Diaz came over to the Mets from the Seattle Mariners in the Robinson Cano deal.
While one end of that deal didn’t work out too well, the other has worked out just fine.
Diaz has once again emerged into the ace closer the Mets thought they were getting when he was acquired.
He has been absolutely lights out for the Mets this season and is making a strong case for being named National League Reliever of the Year when it’s all said and done.
Of course, he’ll have to compete with fellow All-Star Ryan Helsley, but he’s making a strong case for it and he’s rolling into the All-Star break.
He’s red hot and has been virtually unhittable.
