The New York Mets have not skipped a beat since both Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom have been out nursing injuries.
They’ve opened up a nine-game lead over the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves in the National League East division.
But the story of last night’s game was the performance at the plate by one man.
Eduardo Escobar had a night to remember, hitting for the cycle as the Mets dismantled the San Diego Padres by a final of 11-5.
MLB Network tweeted about Escobar’s accomplishment and noted that he is now the 11th player in Mets history to have completed the cycle.

CYCLE!
That two-run triple in the ninth inning says it all.
That hit not only put the game out of reach, but gave Escobar a cycle.
He also had a total of six RBI for the game.
It’s so rare for a player to ever hit for the cycle, but it’s always fun to see.
Escobar was simply locked in on Monday night, and when a hitter is locked in, it’s darn near impossible to try and take him out of his zone.
Escobar is now hitting .241 with five home runs and 24 RBI on the season, with an OPS of .725.
He signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Mets prior to the lockout and is now providing a spark in that vaunted New York lineup.
He’s one of the many reasons why New York has managed to stay afloat despite the injuries to deGrom and Scherzer.
The Mets are a deep and talented team and Escobar is a vital part of what the Mets are doing this season, as they go for their first title since 1986.
