Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is changing his number for the 2021 season.
Last season, he wore number 2 but is switching to number 1 in 2021.

Does The Change Mean Anything?
It is likely the only people that care about the change are those that purchased Hurts’ jerseys in 2020.
Either they will purchase jerseys with the new number or sport the classic one.
For those that believe it is symbolic of a change from QB2 to QB1, that is not the case.
Hurts wore both numbers during his college career.
At Alabama, he wore number 2.
When he transferred to Oklahoma, he switched to number 1.
Jalen Hurts switching to No. 1 (which he wore at Oklahoma) from 2 (which he wore at Bama). No. 1 is SURGING in the QB ranks now, with Tua Tagovialoa and Cam Newton also wearing it, and Justin Fields and Zach Wilson coming in.
Big developments for Warren Moon's old number. https://t.co/t7kVZwKQ10

Who Wore Number 1 On Past Eagles’ Teams?
Hurts will be the first quarterback to wear the number 1.
In Eagles history, number 1 has been worn by special teams players including current Cleveland Browns kicker Cody Parkey, Mat McBriar, Gary Anderson, and Tony Franklin.
Other Eagles’ Numbers News
Though this one did not draw the headlines of Jalen Hurts, many wondered which number Joe Flacco would pick.
Flacco wore number 5; however, that number is not available since former quarterback Donovan McNabb wore it, and the Eagles retired it.
Instead, Joe Flacco will be wearing the number 7.
While Michael Vick is perhaps the most famous Eagle in recent years to wear number 7, quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Nate Sudfeld also wore it.
Former Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will not be wearing No.5 for the first time in his career with the Eagles, as the number was retired by Philadelphia for Donovan McNabb

Expectations Are High For Hurts
No matter which number he picked, the expectations for Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia will be high in 2021.
He is no longer in Carson Wentz‘s shadow since the Eagles shipped him out of town.
The limelight and pressure will be on his shoulders.
Flacco, at this point in his career, is a steady backup.
He is not the 2017 Nick Foles who can jump in during the season and carry the team.
Jalen Hurts is smart and appears ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
