Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker has been in the game for a long time.
At the heart of his long managerial career have been some very good teams, some of which have even been to the World Series.
Baker is no stranger to success and winning and is almost certain to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame when his career is over.
He’s just one win away from all but securing it.
The Astros’ skipper sits at 1,999 wins.
The next win for the Astros gives him that lucky No. 2,000, which is essentially a rite of passage for Hall of Fame managers.
Hello Hall of Fame, it’s Dusty Baker. He’s at 1,999 victories, one away from magical 2,000 victory threshold that’s automatic entrance for managers into the HOF.

Dusty Chasing History
It’s been a bit of a rocky start for the Astros, as they barely sit above the .500 mark at 12-11.
But that won’t matter if Houston can pick up just one more win.
Baker will etch his name in the baseball history books once and for all with the Astros’ next win.
They’ll send Cristian Javier to the mound to face Chris Flexen and the Seattle Mariners.
Both teams are tied for second place in the AL West.
But what makes this even better is that Baker has a chance to pick up that all-important win No. 2,000 in front of the home fans in Houston.
The city will be in festive mode prior to the game, knowing what is at stake.
And if Baker manages to win his 2,000th game tonight, the city and the fans will go nuts for their team’s manager, who will have accomplished a well-deserved feat after so many great years in the game.
The Astros are in a great position to make some history for their manager, and we’ll see if they can pull it off tonight.
