Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker recently made history with his 2,000th win as an MLB manager.
However, he is not really a man that likes to talk too much about his own accomplishments.
Winning 2,000 games in MLB as a skipper is something that only 12 men have been able to achieve.
Baker is, in addition, the first Black manager to do it.
However, Houston Chronicle’s Danielle Lerner tweeted some comments Baker made to Astros’ ace Justin Verlander.
“Justin Verlander said he was talking to Dusty Baker after Miguel Cabrera’s 3000th hit and asked Dusty about the biggest milestones he’s seen. ‘He goes, ‘Well, I saw Hank Aaron break Babe Ruth‘s record. And I saw Barry Bonds break Hank Aaron’s record.’ Subtle flex,” Lerner tweeted.

A True Baseball Man
Baker is actually one of baseball’s biggest treasures, he is just too shy to admit it.
Before being a manager, he was a major league player from 1968 to 1986.
He has witnessed his fair share of MLB history, as a player and as a manager.
He enjoyed not only Henry Aaron, but also Sandy Koufax, Mickey Mantle, Frank Robinson, Tom Seaver, and many, many other legends.
He was an excellent player, winning a World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1981 and retiring with a .278/.347/.432 line, 242 home runs, and 137 stolen bases.
And then he went on to be a fantastic manager, with three World Series berths and three Manager of the Year awards.
He is truly a baseball man, in every sense of the word.
Perhaps he will get a chance to win that elusive World Series this year with the help of Verlander and the Astros.
Even if he doesn’t, there is a place for him among the greatest MLB managers.
