When Donovan Mitchell was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, everyone was talking about how powerful the team’s new backcourt would be.
Sure enough, the pairing of Mitchell with Darius Garland is something enticing and intriguing for all NBA fans.
But Mitchell thinks he’s more than just someone who can move the ball and shoot well.

Speaking of his skill set to the Cleveland press, Mitchell promised even more of himself in the new season.
“It’s not the ability, I can play defense, I know that for a fact. I haven’t shown that & that’s what I’m looking forward to do here. Top 5 defense, I’m not here to bring that down.”
The idea of Mitchell becoming a great shooter and wonderful defensive player as well is something that Cavs fans didn’t necessarily expect but are happy to hear.
Can Mitchell really deliver on this promise?
Donovan On Defense
The Cavaliers’ defense is already something special with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen holding it down by the basket.
That’s part of what makes this team so exciting: it has powerful players in each position ready to do their jobs.
But if Mitchell can step up his defensive game then this team’s chances will only get bigger.
They are already spoken of as one of the biggest threats in the East and they haven’t even played a game.
People are expecting big things from the Cavs, especially since Mitchell is now on the roster.
Followers of the team are elated to hear that he wants to expand his play style and show sides of himself that were hidden before.
This is just the latest piece of good news for fans of the Cavaliers.
