Anyone who doubted that Donovan Mitchell would do well with the Cleveland Cavaliers is surely feeling embarrassed these days.
Mitchell hasn’t just been playing well in Cleveland since the new season began, he’s been playing phenomenally.
He was on fire yet again on Monday night, scoring 41 points against the San Antonio Spurs in yet another big win for the Cavs.

The performance was important not just because it scored a victory for the team.
On Monday, Mitchell got his sixth 40-point game of the season, which is the fifth-most in a season in Cavaliers history.
In fact, the only player with more in a season for the Cavs is LeBron James, who actually holds the top four marks in the team’s history.
Mitchell’s work in 2022-23 has been stunning and worth every penny the Cavaliers are spending.
The young player was terrific when playing for the Utah Jazz but that team never felt like true contenders, particularly because they had such a rough time in the postseason.
But everything about Mitchell’s game feels at home in Cleveland and the team has been surging since the start.
They are currently the fourth seed in the East and are well on their way to their strongest playoff run in years.
There are worries about injuries and the youth and longevity of the team but right now fans are completely smitten with this squad.
And Mitchell is a huge part of that.
In just a matter of months, he has come to the team and become its focal point and leader.
Other athletes like Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, and Jarrett Allen are playing super well this year too and that only makes the team more competitive.
Mitchell is leading the way but the whole roster is right there with him.
