When the NBA world learned that Donovan Mitchell was being traded from the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers, more than a few people were surprised.
For a while, some had assumed that Mitchell would be traded to the New York Knicks.
That had indeed been his rumored landing spot for weeks now.
Other people thought the Jazz would just stick with Mitchell and not move him.
The departure to Cleveland was certainly a shocker – but not to Mitchell himself.

Following the trade, Mitchell posted a simple tweet: a picture of himself in a Cavaliers jersey as a child, along with an image of NBA analyst Brian Windhorst in his now famous meme.
And the smiling emoji Mitchell shared said it all: he was happy about this move and was ready to do some serious work in Cleveland.
Rumors have said Mitchell has been unhappy in Utah for some time.
What will his move to Cleveland do for his game and the team’s future?
Mitchell Moving
Mitchell is one incredible guard, easily one of the best in the league.
His 2021-22 average was 25.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists.
That’s a step-up from his career totals of 23.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
But inside reports from the team have suggested that he has grown tired of the team’s struggles, his damaged camaraderie with Rudy Gobert, and more.
Now that he’s in Cleveland, all of that is behind him.
He is with an up-and-coming team that has a rabid fanbase and a whole lot of potential.
The expectations are high but there is every reason to believe this Cavaliers team could be one of the best in the league.
Mitchell is aware of that and he’s ready to show his stuff.
