Best Buy store front

Best Buy sells some of the best electronics on the market.

Their staff is also incredibly helpful in finding you deals and helping you figure out what kind of tech you need.

Before you start shopping at Best Buy, you may wonder if they accept PayPal as a form of payment.

Here’s what you need to know about whether Best Buy accepts PayPal.

Does Best Buy Take PayPal? (Everything To Know)

Paypal

Yes, Best Buy does take PayPal, but the method differs depending on where you’re shopping.

If you’re shopping in the store, then they’ll accept the use of your PayPal Cash card.

They won’t accept online payments through the PayPal app.

Since the PayPal Cash card is basically like a debit card, you need to ensure that your card has enough cash to cover your purchase.

That’s because Best Buy does not allow customers to use various credit cards or debit cards to cover a purchase.

The transaction needs to be on a single card.

If you want to shop online, then you can use the PayPal app for Best Buy’s website and mobile app.

How To Use PayPal On Best Buy’s Website

Homepage of BestBuy

One of the first steps you need to take to use PayPal on Best Buy is to create an account with PayPal first.

The process is easy.

You need information about yourself, your billing address, and the various types of payment methods that you want to link to your account.

You can link your credit cards, debit cards, and even your bank directly to PayPal.

Once you activate your account, you can start shopping on Best Buy’s website.

Add your purchases to the cart, then navigate to the checkout button on the website when you’re ready to pay for your order.

You’ll see a few different ways that you can pay.

To pay with PayPal, you’ll need to look for either a yellow or grey button with PayPal’s logo on it.

When you click on it, you’ll receive a prompt to log in to PayPal.

This is PayPal’s way of authenticating your identity.

It helps keep scammers from using your PayPal account to pay for purchases for themselves.

If you don’t want to log in every time you want to use PayPal, then you can sign up for their OneTouch program.

Their OneTouch program will allow you to authenticate your identity on the particular device that you’re using.

Any time you use PayPal on that device, it will remember your login information.

You’ll need to activate OneTouch on any new device you use to make a purchase with PayPal.

Once you’re logged in, you’ll see a few different ways in which you can pay for your Best Buy order.

The number of ways depends on the number of cards or bank accounts you have linked to your PayPal.

You may only have one method of payment.

Choose the way that you want to pay for your payment.

PayPal will then forward the information to Best Buy.

It simplifies the checkout process considerably.

Once you click on your choice of payment, PayPal will send you back to the Best Buy website.

At this stage, you should check to ensure that the shipping information is correct.

PayPal can sometimes change the shipping address to what you have on file with them.

It may not be where you want the package to be delivered.

Once you verify the information is correct, you can click on the submit order button.

You’ll receive an email from PayPal telling you that you made a purchase.

You’ll also receive an email from Best Buy that details your order.

How To Use PayPal On Best Buy’s Mobile App

bestbuy app

Using PayPal on Best Buy’s mobile app is similar to using it on their website.

You’ll still need to make an account with PayPal before attempting to buy anything.

PayPal often needs to verify your bank account and will charge $1 to that account to make sure it works.

They’ll refund you afterward.

Once your account is online, you’re able to use Best Buy’s app to make your purchases.

The process is otherwise the same.

You’ll find what you want to buy and add it to your cart.

When you’re ready to check out, click on the shopping cart symbol to go to the checkout area.

Once there, you’ll find a button for PayPal.

Click it and either enter your login information or allow OneTouch to log you in automatically.

Once you’re in PayPal, you can click on the payment type that you want to use to make your purchase.

Double-check that the shipping information is correct.

Then click on “submit order” to use PayPal to complete your purchase.

Even though you’re using their mobile app, you’ll still receive emails from PayPal and Best Buy that verify your order.

How To Use PayPal In Best Buy’s Store

staff is pictured at bestbuy

Using PayPal in Best Buy’s store is different from using it online.

You’ll need to first apply for a PayPal Cash card.

Since it acts like a debit card, PayPal needs to ensure that you have a good payment history with them.

It can take a week or two for your card to arrive in your mailbox, after which you will log in to PayPal and set up a Personal Identification Number or PIN if you didn’t already do so when you initially set up your PayPal account.

Once you have it, you can take your card to Best Buy.

The store accepts the PayPal Cash card because it’s a MasterCard.

This company is one of the payment types that Best Buy accepts.

Before you can buy products at Best Buy, you need to load your cash card with money.

You can do this by either taking money from your other cards or bank and putting it in your PayPal account or by linking your card to your bank.

If your card relies on the money in your PayPal account, then check your account before making a purchase to ensure you have enough.

You also need to consider sales tax if that applies to your situation.

If your card links to your bank, then you need to check that your linked bank account has the correct amount of money in it to cover the purchase.

The PayPal Cash card is not a credit card.

It will only be able to cover the amount that’s in your PayPal account or your bank account.

Once you’re sure that you have the money to make your purchase, you can take your item to the checkout area.

The cashier will ring up your product and give you your total.

You can hand them your PayPal Cash card for them to swipe or swipe it yourself.

The cashier will sometimes ask you sign to your receipt.

Debit card carriers need to sign their receipts to show that their signature matches that on the back of their card.

Some cashiers won’t ask you to sign if the card has a chip, however, because signatures are obsolete at that point.

However, you may be required to enter a Personal Identification Number or PIN on the keypad, which you should have set up when you received your card or activated your account.

As long as you have the funds to cover the purchase, the process will go smoothly, and you’ll be able to walk out of Best Buy with your new purchase.

A PayPal Cash card is essentially the same as if you were paying with a debit card.

What Is The PayPal Cash Card?

paypal card

The PayPal Cash card is a debit card issued by PayPal.

It’s partnered with MasterCard.

It acts like a debit card in that you can only spend the amount that you have in your bank or PayPal account.

You also face certain transaction and ATM fees while using it.

PayPal won’t cover every transaction.

In the case of Best Buy, they also won’t cover transaction fees.

That can add another dollar or two to your overall transaction amount.

If you want to use an ATM to withdraw cash from your PayPal account, then you can use the PayPal Cash card to do so.

Like many other debit cards, if you use certain ATMs, then you can expect to pay a fee.

The only ATM that doesn’t charge a fee for using a PayPal Cash card is a MoneyPass ATM.

You are not guaranteed to have access to a PayPal Cash card.

They’re subject to approval.

Signing up and applying for one is easy, however.

All you need to do to apply for one is to look for the PayPal Cash credit option on your PayPal account.

You’ll need to provide them with information about your address, date of birth, and your social security number to verify your identity.

PayPal will also use this information to ensure there aren’t any outstanding problems with your account.

If everything checks out, then you’ll receive approval for your PayPal Cash card.

It will show up in your mail in seven to 10 business days.

If something is wrong and PayPal rejects your application, then you can always re-apply later.

You need to wait 30 days before you’re able to apply again.

What Other Payments Does Best Buy Accept In The Store?

If you find that your PayPal account is barren, then you can use a few other payment options to pay for your order.

Best Buy accepts the following payments at their store:

  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • Discover
  • Best Buy or My Best Buy credit cards
  • Diners Club
  • My Best Buy Reward certifications
  • American Express
  • Gift cards for Best Buy
  • Vendor coupons
  • Best Buy for Business or Commercial cards
  • Checks
  • Cash

If you live in Japan, Canada, China, Australia, or New Zealand, then you can also use JCB to pay for your order.

They do not, however, accept JCB payments in the United States.

What Other Payments Does Best Buy Accept Online?

Best Buy also accepts several other options if you don’t want to use PayPal to pay for your order online.

These payments are also acceptable on their mobile app.

The payment methods include:

  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • Discover
  • My Best Buy Reward certificates
  • Best Buy credit cards
  • My Best Buy credit cards
  • American Express
  • Gift cards for Best Buy
  • Diners Club
  • Best Buy for Business or Commercial cards
  • Vendor coupons

They also allow you to pay with any points that you accumulate with Best Buy.

Like their physical stores, their online stores only accept JCB payments in countries that are not the United States.

Does Best Buy Accept PayPal Pay In 4?

Paypal on phone

There’s a bit of confusion when it comes to PayPal’s “Pay in 4” program and Best Buy.

In most cases, your Best Buy purchases should qualify for PayPal’s “Pay in 4” program.

However, many users find that locating the option to pay in four installments is impossible on the Best Buy website.

The Pay in 4 program covers orders from $30 to $600.

Many of the products at Best Buy fall within this range.

One option that you can try to do PayPal’s Pay in 4 is to look for an option within PayPal when you go to its screen.

During the checkout process, Best Buy will prompt you to go to the PayPal screen to finalize your order.

When you’re there, you may find an option to use Pay in 4 instead of purchasing the entire order at once.

If it isn’t there, then Best Buy may not support Pay in 4 for that particular order.

Another reason you might not see a Pay in 4 option is that you’re not registered with the program.

Like the PayPal Cash card, you need approval first.

Sign up for the program to see if you qualify.

The Pay in 4 program is helpful for large purchases because it allows you to pay for that product in four installments.

You need to pay a down payment on the product first which is usually a larger amount than the rest of the installments.

The best part of the Pay in 4 program is that you don’t pay interest while you’re making your installment payments.

It’s an affordable way to pay for larger purchases over time without falling into debt.

Conclusion

Best Buy does accept PayPal as a means to pay for your order.

The retailer only allows the use of the PayPal Cash card when shopping in the store.

Using the app doesn’t work in-store.

If you’re shopping on Best Buy’s website or mobile app, then you can use the PayPal app to pay for your order.

If you’re still facing problems using PayPal to pay for your Best Buy order, then you should reach out to customer representatives at both Best Buy and PayPal.
