Baker Mayfield had himself a Hollywood experience on Thursday night with a comeback victory against the Las Vegas Raiders.
While the former first-round pick was unemployed on Monday, the San Francisco 49ers didn’t pick him up.
Despite losing Jimmy Garoppolo for the season, the team didn’t want Mayfield.
However, was this a mistake on their part?
49ers Aren’t Foolish To Indulge The Hollywood Narrative Of Mayfield
When Mayfield went to Carolina, it was his chance to re-ignite his career.
However, his time with the Carolina Panthers was a disaster.
His time there saw him making history, in a bad way.
Per ESPN, the just-released Baker Mayfield just played the second worst season of any quarterback in NFL history. And lots of people are speculating the 49ers want him? Check it out: https://t.co/c0uNDtiK3C pic.twitter.com/MvSspxEKl4

However, the game on Thursday night saw Mayfield under the Hollywood lights making an impressive comeback victory.
So is this the real Mayfield, a quarterback who can lead a team?
Or did fans see nothing more than a veteran quarterback taking advantage of a team known to blow leads?
History shows us it’s the latter statement which is true, as the Raiders constantly blow big leads.
But the other question for the 49ers is their rookie quarterback, Brock Purdy.
Purdy Shows Promise That Mayfield Didn’t Have This Season
When Purdy came into the game for the injured Garoppolo, he was solid.
Even while under pressure, Purdy made solid throws, helping his team win the game.
While he wasn’t perfect, he finished the game with 210 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
His 67.6% completion percentage from last Sunday’s game is solid, and much better than Mayfield’s 58.5% average for this season.
While Purdy is a rookie, he’s better than Mayfield, meaning the 49ers didn’t make a mistake passing on him.

Jerry Jones says
What an idiot! Thinking Purdy is better than Baker. Must be blind. Carolina will make anybody look bad, …. Browns not much better.

9ers we’re 24th to pick on the waiver wire and rams were 4th picking him up. We only could if he cleared waiver, which he didn’t. I like our chances with Purdy.
