While Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson has the final say on where he will continue his NFL career, the Houston Texans still have a role in the process.
As ESPN’s NFL reporter Dianna Russini shared, the team serves as a gateway for the teams that would like to have their prized asset.
The first step for the Saints, Panthers, and Browns in arranging a meeting with QB Deshaun Watson was presenting a trade package to the Texans, per multiple league sources. Once Houston approved, only then did they meet.

Russini tweeted, “The first step for the Saints, Panthers, and Browns in arranging a meeting with QB Deshaun Watson was presenting a trade package to the Texans, per multiple league sources. Once Houston approved, only then did they meet.”
While more teams would like to have Watson, Russini might have hinted that the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, and the Cleveland Browns are the frontrunners in acquiring the 2020 passing yards leader.
If that’s the case, the pitch of all teams mentioned might include a quarterback.
After all, Tyrod Taylor left for the New York Giants, leaving Davis Mills and Jeff Driskel as their only options.
Draft picks will also be included to compensate for what the Texans will be losing.
Which Team Has The Best Shot In Getting Watson?
It seems like the Browns are leading the race after Baker Mayfield posted a heartfelt message on his Twitter account.
His sentiments could be a hint that Watson chose the Browns over the Saints and the Panthers.
However, nothing’s certain until a final announcement comes out.
Likewise, the Saints have the best roster among the three teams because they have playmakers on both sides of the ball.
It’s a scary thought seeing Watson team up with Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas.
Meanwhile, Carolina might have the worst odds among the three teams, but Watson still has the final say if he selects the Panthers.
