You would think that since he has been retired for nine years, New York Yankees and MLB legend Derek Jeter would have no business making the cover of one of the most popular baseball video games.
Well, think again.
MLB The Show gave ‘The Captain’ the cover of the Collector’s Edition, a development that became official on Wednesday night.
The regular cover will belong to Miami Marlins budding star Jazz Chisholm Jr., but Jeter will be the first thing people will see on an exclusive edition of the game.
As you can probably imagine, this is not the first time he appears on the cover of a video game.
One of the most marketable players of his time, Jeter has just reached 10 covers.
We are having a hard time thinking about a player with more, although Ken Griffey Jr. might be right there, too.
“Last night, Derek Jeter was revealed as the cover athlete for the collector’s edition of MLB The Show 23. It will be Jeter’s 10th time on an MLB video game cover. He was the cover athlete for Acclaim Entertainment’s All-Star Baseball from 1999-2004, and 2K’s game from 2005-2007,” SNY Yankees tweeted.

If you are hardcore baseball and video game fan who grew up in the 2000s, then you surely are familiar with Jeter’s face on the All-Star Baseball series.
He was also on MLB’s 2K5, 2K6, and 2K7 covers.
Those years, from 1999 to 2007, were probably the best of Jeter’s brilliant career.
He was inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020, just one vote shy of being a unanimous entry.
He was the idol of a full generation of New Yorkers and Americans in general.
Jeter is, still almost 10 years after calling it quits, appearing on the cover of MLB games.
Impressive, to say the least.
