Despite the distractions they had to endure throughout the season, the Las Vegas Raiders still managed to make the playoffs.
However, their postseason stint was short-lived as they lost during the Super Wild Card Weekend to the eventual AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals.
It was a masterful job by interim head coach Rich Bisaccia, who is now the special teams coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.
Meanwhile, Josh McDaniels is the new man in charge of the Raiders as he looks to install an aggressive offensive system that focuses on play-action and two-tight end sets.
In that case, the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator has no doubt that Derek Carr can run this offense.
That’s good news for the longtime Raiders quarterback, especially because his value will enable him to earn more money.
Sources: With the full support of Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels, the #Raiders plan to offer Derek Carr top-tier QB money. I’m told that Carr is seeking in the range of $35M+. It’s also worth noting that both sides are open to a short-term extension. https://t.co/d9J2cw2p1E

McDaniels and new Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler have all the trust in the veteran play-caller, especially after how he steered the team amidst the controversies.
However, Carr won’t come cheap as they look to sign him to an extension.
Podcast host and NFL insider Jordan Schultz tweeted that Carr is seeking a deal that would pay him at least $35 annually.
That’s still a fair value considering that Josh Allen signed a six-year, $258 million deal while Patrick Mahomes inked a ten-year contract that could be worth up to half a billion dollars.
Options For The Raiders
Having a solid quarterback is a must in the NFL, especially in the AFC.
Unfortunately, the Raiders must prioritize signing Carr to an extension because they will face Mahomes and Justin Herbert twice every season.
Carr has one year left on his current deal and he will be earning a base salary of close to $20 million.
The team can put the franchise tag on him, giving Carr a guaranteed $29.5 million based on the average of the top five salaries in the position.
However, that’s only for one year.
Therefore, it would be better for both parties to negotiate a longer deal to remain competitive in the stacked AFC.
