After months of rumors, it’s finally happened: Dejounte Murray has been traded away from the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs have decided to trade Murray to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Danilo Gallinari, three future first-round picks, and a future first-round pick swap.
All week long, we have heard that Murray leaving the Spurs was inevitable but his final destination was in the dark.
However, his name has been attached to the Hawks for awhile now so it’s not surprising to hear this deal finally came together.

For his part, Murray posted a heartfelt, emotional message to the only city he’s played professional ball in.
“SAN ANTONIO I LOVE YOU FOREVER,” Murray said.
He added: “Thank You @spurs And The Whole City For Believing In Me And Embracing Me From DAY ONE. I Want To Write A Whole Book But It’s Not Easy. We Are Family And Its Always Going To Be Bigger Than Basketball!!!”
Are greater things ahead for Murray?
There is every reason to believe the answer to that is a resounding yes.
Murray And Young
The inclusion of Murray on the Hawks is very exciting for Atlanta’s fans.
There are already some analysts saying the team has one of the best backcourts in the East now.
Sure enough, Murray greatly improves the team in some huge ways: Murray led the league in steals last season and is one of the greatest perimeter defenders around.
He is going to help Trae Young and will improve the Hawks’ horrible defense.
Plus, he’s playing at the peak of his powers: he put up 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists a game during last season and made his first All-Star appearance.
There is no denying this is a huge win for the Hawks and could return them to the Eastern Conference Finals.
