San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is getting much flak for refusing to sign a young fan’s football.
The incident happened during his camp wherein the child approached him for an autograph.
Unfortunately, he said, “Nah, I can’t sign it.”
Samuel wasn’t the first professional player to deny an autograph request.
But since he is the latest, he is now the poster child of who some irate fans describe as millionaire athletes with bloated egos.
However, there could be a reason for his refusal, starting from the fact that the kid had a football with the 49ers logo.
Does it mean that his trade request is still live and a deal is imminent?
But with so much criticism hounding him, he felt the need to explain the incident.
400 campers I wasn’t able to autograph personal items, but every camper went home with a signed photo.
Wishing everybody a happy and healthy 4th of July Weekend!

He tweeted, “I am grateful for every single one of my fans. Unfortunately with over 400 campers I wasn’t able to autograph personal items, but every camper went home with a signed photo. Wishing everybody a happy and healthy 4th of July Weekend! ”
Samuel also mentioned in an earlier post, “Hosting a camp in my hometown this past week was a real blessing and the support was truly special. Thank you to the campers, parents, coaches, support staff, Spartanburg HS, and the city of Spartanburg.”
Treating Everyone On Even Ground
While the autograph could have made the child’s day, perhaps he did not want to give any kid any preferential treatment.
He loved all of his campers and gave them all the same souvenir.
He also posed for pictures which is a fantastic remembrance of the camp.
Even if he did not hand out those autographed pictures, the fact of organizing a camp alone is a great blessing for these aspiring football players.
