Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is a guy who knows how to push the right buttons and make the right decisions at key moments in games.
He’s still a relatively young manager, but he’s been blessed with a roster that is about as deep as any team in baseball.
So it’s never any surprise when a manager like Roberts, who has a deep and talented roster, has a plan in place for his players, especially his veterans.
Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya responded to a tweet from Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times that announced some in game changes for the team, saying that Roberts’ plan was to get some of his veteran stars a little rest during this current stretch of games.
Dave Roberts said during the last homestand he was going to look for chances to get Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman off their feet for a few innings whenever he could during this stretch. https://t.co/H0S2vwn8Kt

Experimenting With Depth
When you have a roster as deep and talented as the Dodgers, you can afford to have a getaway day and get some of your stars a little rest.
The Dodgers are a team with some solid bench players that could be starting on a lot of other teams in Major League Baseball, so you have to get them some reps at a certain point, as well as rest some of your stars.
The Dodgers are going to need their stars for the stretch run late in the season, so there comes a point where they’ll need a little break and where they’ll have to give some of their reserves a chance to do a little damage and show what they’re made of.
Depth is key on any ballclub, and each good team has plenty of depth on their roster.
You never know when that depth will be tested, so Roberts is making the right move by giving some of his stars a little break.
