The New York Giants are undergoing several changes.
Brian Daboll replaced Joe Judge as head coach, while Joe Schoen followed Dave Gettleman as general manager.
While they have different roles, their job is to clean up the mess that their predecessors made.
Judge talked about the team not being a clown show organization even if he hadn’t had a winning season.
Meanwhile, Gettleman whiffed on his draft day calls and salary negotiations.
Daboll and Schoen will be important figures for the team in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.
But beyond selecting the players that could help them become relevant again, they will also help settle their quarterback situation.
The New York Giants draft board is all set. Giants GM Joe Schoen and HC Brian Daboll will present it to Giants ownership today, per source.
They will meet again Thursday to discuss QB Daniel Jones.
The decision will be made if they want to pick up the QB’s fifth-year option.— Dianna Russini (@diannaESPN) April 27, 2022
ESPN’s Dianna Russini tweeted, “The New York Giants draft board is all set. Giants GM Joe Schoen and HC Brian Daboll will present it to Giants ownership today, per source. Does The Organization Trust Jones?
Jones is eligible for that option, worth $22.3 million when picked up.
However, this decision will depend on whether Daboll believes there’s still room for improvement with the former Duke standout.
Ownership will have their say as well.
While the option’s value is still a bargain compared to the prevailing trends in the quarterback market, it’s a fully-guaranteed amount that could limit their salary cap flexibility in the future.
Unfortunately, the Giants must decide soon if they will pick up the option.
If they do, Big Blue is giving Jones two seasons to prove that he was worth the sixth overall pick in the 2019 draft.
Otherwise, the Giants might select from the more promising 2023 quarterback draft class.
Daboll was seen spending time with Jones during their offseason workout program.
Interactions like those will help the team make up their mind.
