Not many NBA players can do what Damian Lillard can do.
Often overlooked, he continues to prove that he’s one of the most explosive scorers in NBA history, and it’s finally time he gets some much-deserved praise.
Lillard had the best game of his career last night, torching the Houston Rockets for a whopping 71 points in over 50% from the floor, adding 13 three-pointers and going 14-for-14 from the charity stripe.
While the Rockets aren’t exactly a good team, and their backcourt often struggles defensively, putting up 71 points at the NBA level is nearly unprecedented, with just eight players achieving that milestone in the past.
When asked about his mindset throughout the game, the Weber State standout claimed that it was all about staying aggressive and continuing to attack all night long.
“I enjoy these moments in the game when I’m just going after people when I’m in attack mode,” Lillard said postgame. “I was super aggressive the whole first half; towards the end of the second quarter, they started to play different types of defense, but I had my mind made up that I was gonna keep attacking them regardless; I had it going.”

Lillard hit the ground running with 41 points in the first half, adding 30 in the final 24 minutes.
He became the oldest player with a 70-point outing in NBA history, proving LeBron James was right when he told him he was no youngin anymore.
But Lillard is proving to age like a fine wine, averaging nearly 40 points per game over his past ten games, and willing the Blazers into contention for a spot in the Play-in tournament.
Once again, fans will debate whether he should try and leave Portland to pursue a championship somewhere else.
But even if he never does, Lillard has done more than enough merits to enter the list of the best scorers the game of basketball has ever seen.
