It was not a fun weekend in the Bronx for the Chicago Cubs.
The North Siders went into New York to do battle with the New York Yankees, who own baseball’s best record.
The Cubs were swept and outscored 28-5 as their losing streak was extended to six games and they fell 10 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central.
In fact, they had quite an unfortunate streak at the plate going.
They had passed the 1996 San Francisco Giants for the most consecutive at-bats with runners in scoring position that didn’t result in a hit.
But the streak ended at 48, and ESPN’s Jesse Rogers made sure to send out a tweet when it was finally over.

Cubs Set Unfortunate Mark
This is quite an embarrassing streak for the Cubs.
They hadn’t really done much of anything over the weekend against the Bronx Bombers, and at the end of the day, they still hadn’t.
But at least that streak is finally over.
It’s been a rough year for the Cubbies, but you’ll take it if you’re a Cubs fan, especially when you’re playing the best team in all of baseball on the road.
No, it didn’t change the Cubs’ fortunes and they still ended up getting swept at Yankee Stadium, but again, that ugly streak is over, and that’s better than nothing.
The ’96 Giants’ record for most consecutive hitless at-bats with runners in scoring position was 43.
The Cubs broke that record over the weekend, driving the streak up to 48 at-bats.
Needless to say, even with the streak over, the Cubs did not have a pleasant weekend while playing the Yankees.
There’s still plenty of time for their bats to wake up.
