The Chicago Cubs promised their fans they would be competitive in 2022.
Unfortunately for their supporters, that hasn’t really been the case this year.
After being swept by the New York Yankees in ugly fashion over the weekend, the Cubs also lost on Monday against the San Diego Padres.
They didn’t just lose against the Yanks: they were outscored 28-5 in three games, which is baffling.
The losses are starting to bother a huge portion of the fan base, which already had to suffer last year’s rebuild and trading spree.
Cubs fan John Carruthers went as far as typing some of the words the Cubs’ management said over the offseason regarding the future of the season and the franchise as a whole.
“We have the resources necessary to compete in 2022 and beyond, and we will use them. We will be active in free agency and continue to make thoughtful decisions to bolster our team this offseason,” he wrote.

The Cubs Have Been Worse Than Expected
The Cubs’ offseason decisions currently have them with a mediocre 23-37 record, 11 games behind the division leaders in the NL Central, the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Cubs did bring in several useful pieces: Seiya Suzuki, Yan Gomes, Marcus Stroman, Clint Frazier, and others.
The problem is that most of them haven’t been very good: Suzuki started off the season in great form, but then cooled off and got injured.
Frazier was recently designated for assignment, while Stroman has a 5.32 ERA.
Some of the key trade acquisitions from last year haven’t panned out, like Nick Madrigal (.222/.263/.250).
All things considered, their pitching is not good enough and their offense is inconsistent, so fans are not happy that they will, apparently, spend another year on the outside looking when it comes to the playoffs.
