Late on Saturday, the Chicago Cubs added another key veteran piece to their roster for 2023, signing slugger Trey Mancini to a two-year, $14 million contract.
The deal includes an opt-out after 2023.
But Mancini is just the latest addition to a young Cubs squad that looks ready to challenge the rival St. Louis Cardinals for supremacy in the National League Central division.
News broke of the Cubs’ latest signing at the annual Cubs Convention on Saturday night.
Cubs fans in attendance heard the news on starting chanting Mancini’s name in unison.
One Cubs fan captured a video of the moment and posted it on Twitter.

Cubs fans are feeling good about 2023 after their latest addition, and it’s clear that everybody on the North Side of Chicago is ecstatic about having Mancini on board.
The 30-year-old should fit in quite nicely with the Cubs as well.
The veteran outfielder and designated hitter can provide power from the right side of the plate and even help create a solid platoon at first base with the newly signed Eric Hosmer.
Chicago has been busy this winter, having signed Jameson Taillon and Drew Smyly to bolster the starting rotation, as well as adding Cody Bellinger, Dansby Swanson, Hosmer, and Mancini.
This all comes after the devastating loss of catcher Willson Contreras, who joined the Cardinals on a five-year, $87.5 million deal.
Chicago has been swiftly picking up the pieces and laying the groundwork for the next great team on the North Side of Chicago.
