Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith will be out for a few months after suffering a hamstring injury.
After reading how NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport described Smith’s condition, it doesn’t look good.
Rapoport tweeted, “#Cowboys standout LT Tyron Smith actually suffered an avulsion fracture of the knee, meaning the hamstring tendon that sits at the back of the knee pulled off the bone, and he needs surgery, sources say. If he’s back at all, it’ll be December. A tough loss.”
While Rapoport gave an estimate for his return, even he is not sure if Smith will ever take the field again.
After all, he missed several games during the 2020 season because of a neck injury requiring surgery.
A year later, he missed six games due to an ankle injury.
The hamstring injury is the latest in Smith’s deteriorating condition.
Yet even if missing time has been the norm for Smith, Blogging The Boys Managing Editor RJ Ochoa feels that the team does not have a solid succession plan.
How the Dallas Cowboys approached the tackle position this off-season knowing that Tyron Smith had missed time six years in a row:
– Cut La’el Collins
– Drafted Tyler Smith, put him at guard
– Drafted Matt WaletzkoThey knew this was likely coming and didn’t properly prepare.

Ochoa tweeted how the Cowboys handled the offensive tackle position even if Smith missed games for the past six seasons.
First off, they cut La’el Collins even if he had three years left on his contract.
Collins was suspended for five games last season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
He is now with the Cincinnati Bengals as part of the team’s rebuild of the offensive line to protect Joe Burrow better.
Lucky Pick From Their Rookies, Perhaps?
Smith’s condition led the Cowboys to select two offensive tackles in the 2022 NFL Draft.
They selected Tulsa’s Tyler Smith in the first round and North Dakota’s Matt Waletzko in round five.
Smith was a Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference during his final year with the Golden Hurricane.
Meanwhile, Waltezko was First-Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference last year.
However, are they ready to protect Dak Prescott‘s blind side once they are thrown into the fire?
