The New Orleans Pelicans were facing a make-or-break night on Thursday when they went up against the Phoenix Suns.
They knew that if they lost the game then their season was over and claiming a victory was their only chance of keeping things alive.
It seemed like a tall order – but not impossible.
However, they didn’t know they’d be playing against a version of Chris Paul that we’d never seen before.

Paul literally set an NBA record in the Suns’ victory on Thursday.
He went 14-of-14 from the field and that stat is the most field goals made without a miss in NBA postseason history.
It’s rare to say that someone had a “perfect game” but that’s exactly what you can call Paul’s Game 6 triumph.
Turning It On
Paul hitting this level of expertise in the postseason is music to the ears of Suns fans everywhere.
The idea of him entering the second round of the playoffs performing like this is a gift, coming at the right time and taking the team above and beyond.
Now that the Suns have taken down the Pelicans, 4-2, they have to look ahead to what comes next: the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks will be a tough challenge, especially since they haven’t been in the second round in years.
Dallas has a lot to prove and there is no chance they will roll over easily.
If Paul keeps playing as he did on Thursday, the Mavericks are going to have to step it up and rely on their entire squad.
Paul has made it clear that he’s gone into turbo mode.
That guarantees that the second round in the West is going to be wild.
