Make that three victories in as many games for the San Francisco 49ers to start the 2023 NFL season.
Like in previous seasons, their defense has been elite, allowing opponents only 14 points per game.
But their tenacity on that side of the ball takes some shine away from the Niners’ offense, especially quarterback Brock Purdy.
Some sports media personalities like Nick Wright have doubts about Brock Purdy and say the stats aren’t telling the whole story about him.
However, Chris Broussard believes the contrary, saying that Purdy is a vital cog in San Francisco’s early success.
“Brock Purdy is not going to hold the 49ers back from winning a Super Bowl. He is like a true point guard, not a flashy true PG. He’s like a John Stockton. He doesn’t make mistakes,” Broussard shared with Wright and Kevin Wildes in a recent episode of FS1’s First Things First.

It’s an interesting comparison because it makes sense.
Stockton isn’t the first person basketball fans will consider if they are building their list of best NBA point guards of all time.
But his numbers don’t lie, and he was consistent, even if he didn’t have many jaw-dropping highlights.
To Broussard, that’s what Purdy is to the 49ers.
He does what is needed and adjusts accordingly to lessen his mistakes.
Purdy has 736 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions through Week 3.
If that’s not convincing enough, look at how the 49ers fared against the Philadelphia Eagles when Purdy injured his elbow during last year’s NFC Championship Game.
With eight regular-season victories in as many starts, Purdy is getting the job done with the stellar roster surrounding him.
