The Kansas City Chiefs have won every game but one this season.
But despite their AFC-best 11-1 record, they’re not widely considered as the top team in the league anymore.
One insider recently pointed out a somewhat worrisome statistic regarding the Chiefs.
“Since 2000, the Chiefs have the worst point differential (54) among teams to start 11-1 or better through 13 weeks,” Daniel Popper of The Athletic wrote on X.

Next closest: The 2012 Falcons, who started 11-1 with a point differential of 88.

The Chiefs have made their mark by winning close games.
Though there’s a lot of merit in finding ways to win no matter the circumstances, a number of narrow victories are not what one would expect from a championship-caliber team.
The Buffalo Bills may have exposed the Chiefs in their only loss of the season, and Kansas City has struggled to get past two subpar teams in back-to-back weeks.
Of course, it’s hard to count out the Chiefs after what they’ve accomplished during the Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes era.
There’s been a lot of chatter about the team over the past two years, yet they’ve still finished the season with the Vince Lombardi Trophy in their hands both times and are now looking to become the first team to win the Super Bowl three times in a row.
Even if they haven’t looked as dominant as usual this season, they’re the defending back-to-back champions for a reason and need to be treated as such.
