This season, the Kansas City Chiefs will have a different look after losing Demarcus Robinson, Tyrann Mathieu, Daniel Sorensen, and Tyreek Hill.
However, they’ve brought in JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Ronald Jones, and Justin Reid.
With Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce still with the team, expect the Chiefs to remain an AFC contender.
After all, Mahomes has a 4-1 record without Hill.
But the roster changes aren’t the only thing that the Chiefs are revamping.
Instead, they are trying a different approach to their offseason workout program, as NFL Network’s James Palmer shared.
I’m curious if what Reid & Mahomes have set up will spread to other teams in future offseasons. They agreed to have Mahomes host the skill players in Texas during this first portion of voluntary workouts. They train and bond on their own, yet still attend team meetings virtually

Palmer tweeted, “I’m curious if what Reid & Mahomes have set up will spread to other teams in future offseasons. They agreed to have Mahomes host the skill players in Texas during this first portion of voluntary workouts. They train and bond on their own, yet still attend team meetings virtually.”
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitchell Trubisky made a similar scenario when he invited teammates to his home in Florida.
The Chiefs have faith in Mahomes that this setup will yield positive results.
Besides, who wouldn’t want to train with a former league MVP, a Super Bowl champion, and a Super Bowl MVP?
Kansas City isn’t pressuring their skill players to perform in a team environment.
Likewise, letting Mahomes lead the way will also help them know each other better.
Mahomes Will Teach The Chiefs’ Playbook
There will be growing pains as Smith-Schuster, Jones, and Valdes-Scantling become familiar with the Chiefs’ offensive playbook.
They might know the formation and the cadence from their previous teams, but the different verbiage could be tricky.
But if Mahomes can lead the team during pressure situations, he can certainly help his new teammates master their vocabulary.
