The Houston Astros took Game 5 of the World Series with a 3-2 score at Citizens Bank Park.
It didn’t happen without a couple of scares in the late innings, though.
In the eighth inning, the Phillies scored one and had two men on and two outs, when Kyle Schwarber hit a hard liner to first base that Trey Mancini was able to catch to end the threat.
An inning later, Astros centerfielder Chas McCormick made a catch that potentially changed the game.
With one out and nobody on base, J.T. Realmuto finally figured out Ryan Pressly and hit a ball to the gaps, near the center field wall.
It looked like an extra-base hit but McCormick leaped and made the catch of his life.
The inning went from a potential one-out, runner in scoring position situation to two outs and the bases clear for Bryce Harper.
Harper ended up reaching base, but Nick Castellanos grounded out to end the game.
McCormick Made The Catch Of His Life
Growing up, McCormick was closer to the Phillies than the Astros.
“Chas McCormick, who grew up in West Chester and has watched plenty of games in this stadium, just made one of the best catches you’ll ever see given the situation,” MLB’s Paul Casella tweeted.

McCormick isn’t your prototypical center fielder, but was very good with the glove and the bat in 2022.
He had 5 Outs Above Average in just under 500 innings at the position, and hit .245/.332/.407 with 14 home runs.
He gave the Astros a viable alternative there.
Not only that, but he quite likely prevented a Phillies victory with his amazing catch: if Harper had come to bat with a man on second and one out, who knows what would have happened.
