The Washington Commanders regressed last season after a strong 2020 campaign.
That year, they nearly defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the Wild Card round.
Unfortunately, they did not make it to last season’s playoffs.
Then, they traded for Carson Wentz as their search for a franchise quarterback continues.
But while the quarterback is already with another team, he can have his payback during Washington’s season opener.
The #Commanders will open up their season at home vs. the #Jaguars, per @JPFinlayNBCS. Carson Wentz’s first game as a Commander will be against the team that sent him and his old team packing last year.

Wentz was still with the Indianapolis Colts last season when they dropped their season finale against the Jaguars.
The Colts had two opportunities to clinch a playoff spot but failed.
But against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 17, he only had 148 yards and a touchdown.
Week 18 against the Jaguars was worse because of his 4.3 QBR.
Worst yet, they missed the playoffs because of his blunder.
Wentz Has A Decent Offense To Work With
The Commanders finished at 7-10 and were playoff contenders at one point.
However, their campaign fizzled with Taylor Heinicke as their quarterback.
Wentz hopes to improves the team’s fortunes especially with running back Antonio Gibson and wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
They’ve also drafted Jahan Dotson who can make an immediate impact despite being a rookie.
However, he will not be facing the same Jaguars roster because they brought in several new players.
Christian Kirk and Zay Jones are now targets for Trevor Lawrence, while Brandon Scherff adds protection.
Therefore, Wentz will be in for a battle if the Jaguars come out flying.
