For all the things that happened during his free agency process, shortstop Carlos Correa seems to be happy to return to the place he called “home” this past season: the Minnesota Twins.
An old ankle injury set off the alarms for two different teams that had reached an agreement with Correa’s camp.
First, the San Francisco Giants decided it was a big enough issue to back down from a $350 million pact; and then the New York Mets felt the same way and decided not to sign him to a $315 million deal they had previously agreed to.
But the Twins were always in the thick of things, and after the Mets lowered their offer to six years and $157 million, Minnesota was there to outbid them.
In the end, the Twins offered a six-year, $200 million pact with the chance of extending the stay for four additional campaigns and $70 million.
Considering the circumstances, that’s not too bad for Correa.
The player went to Instagram to share his thoughts about the whole process and the fact he is running it back with the Twins.

Correa seems to have genuinely enjoyed his time as a Twin last season.
The team certainly enjoyed his production: a .291 batting average, 22 home runs, Gold-Glove caliber defense, an .834 OPS and a 140 wRC+.
Well-above average performance across the board, and the kind that helps a squad ease some concerns over the player’s long-term health to secure him in the short-term.
With the player and team happy and ready to roll, the 2023 could be a good season for Minnesota.
