Carlos Correa Adds To A Long Sad List In Houston

Carlos Correa signed a three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Minnesota Twins, thus officially ending his time with the Houston Astros.

And Correa is just the latest on a long list of athletes who have departed the city of Houston in the past few years.

Last year, the city saw James Harden depart after being traded to the Brooklyn Nets, but other players fill out that list as well.

The Astros have taken the brunt of all of the departures.

After the 2019 season, Gerrit Cole departed for the New York Yankees.

Last year, it was George Springer who bolted for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Now, add Correa to the list.

DeAndre Hopkins
James Harden
George Springer
JJ Watt
Deshaun Watson
Carlos Correa

A Long List Of Departures

This is a sad fact for Houston sports fans.

So many notable athletes have left their city over the past couple of years, and it isn’t getting any easier for them to bare.

Losing Correa not only hurts the city, but also the Astros.

Correa and Jose Altuve were a dynamic duo in the middle infield for Houston.

Things certainly won’t be the same for the Astros without Correa.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Astros respond to Correa’s departure.

They did not sign Trevor Story, so it’s anybody’s guess as to who Correa’s replacement will be.

Aledmys Diaz may be the most likely replacement, at least coming from in-house, but with all the major shortstops signed, Houston is likely going to go with an in-house option.

The Astros still have a great team on paper, but they will look very different without Correa.

And with so many notable players departing Houston over the past few years, fans have to wonder who goes next, and when that will happen.
