The St. Louis Cardinals had to make an unforeseen change this offseason when Dan McLaughlin, their play-by-play announcer for almost a quarter-century, stepped down from his post.
Fortunately, the Cards had another option in mind.
Several months after McLaughlin’s resignation, the team hired Chip Caray, the grandson of legendary Cardinals broadcaster Harry Caray, to take over as the new TV announcer.
With spring training games underway, Caray has had a chance to get acclimated with his new position.
But today is a special day for the new Cardinals broadcaster.
Caray turns 58 years old today.
On Twitter, the Cardinals wished their new broadcaster a happy birthday.

Caray has spent the past several years as the play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Braves.
He has also worked for TBS and FOX Sports and has called games for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs.
He began his career in 1989 when he called games for the NBA’s Orlando Magic.
Caray’s father, Skip, was also a well-rounded broadcaster, having been a radio announcer for the St. Louis Hawks, later the Atlanta Hawks, and ultimately working Braves games alongside his son.
After several years in Atlanta, Caray has finally found himself a spot with the Cardinals.
The 58-year-old is a native of St. Louis and was one of the early candidates to replace McLaughlin, along with Seattle Mariners announcer Aaron Goldsmith, who is also a St. Louis native.
Soon, Caray will have a chance to call his first Opening Day game as the Cardinals play-by-play announcer.
Opening Day is March 30.
