Despite the fact that the 2023 season has been nothing short of a disaster for the St. Louis Cardinals, the team appears intent on not trading away stars such as Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt.
However, as is the case with any trade deadline, speculation is floating around that some big moves could be made, even possibly involving Arenado and Goldschmidt.
Still, the Cardinals have made it clear that those two stars are off limits.
That hasn’t stopped others from speculating that it could still happen, though.
On Twitter, Cardinals insider Brandon Kiley refuted this claim, calling for the national media to stop speculating on a potential Arenado trade.
Can we *please* stop with these national "reports" on Arenado? The #STLCards are not trading him. https://t.co/sdMsEYU6QQ pic.twitter.com/OeuiVBacix

St. Louis is well out of postseason contention.
At 44-56, they own the fourth-worst record in the National League and are at risk of falling back into last place in the NL Central.
A six-game winning streak built some momentum, but that momentum was dissipated when the Cardinals dropped three straight to the Chicago Cubs.
Still, St. Louis has every intention to compete in 2024, and even though they will be sellers at this year’s trade deadline, that doesn’t mean that they’re planning on giving up Arenado or Goldschmidt.
Arenado is still under contract through the 2027 season and has a full no-trade clause on his contract.
He was the lone Cardinals All-Star this season, drawing the start at third base for the National League squad.
The Cardinals are 10 games back in the Wild Card race and 11 back in the NL Central entering Monday’s slate of games.
