With two weeks to go before spring training officially begins, it’s safe to say that free agency is winding down.
Only a few major free agents remain unsigned at this point, and it would seem that soon, they will find homes, either before the start of spring camp or very early in the process.
The top free agent that has yet to sign is veteran right-hander Michael Wacha, who enjoyed a bounce-back campaign with the Boston Red Sox.
Wacha’s former team, the St. Louis Cardinals, somewhat addressed their starting pitching issues by signing lefty Andrew Suarez to a minor league deal, but a reunion could still be possible.
On Twitter, a Cardinals writer posed an interesting question, asking fans what kind of deal they would be willing to give the right-hander should he end up signing with the team.
What contract would you want to see the Cardinals give Michael Wacha? Or would you at all? 3.32 ERA, 3.3 bWAR in 127.1 innings last year in Boston. https://t.co/HKN7caP3ZA

Granted, the Cardinals have not been very active in the starting pitcher’s market this offseason, so a reunion, while still possible, is unlikely.
But as spring camp approaches and some players remain unsigned, St. Louis could potentially dive back into the market and take a flyer on the right-hander, or any free agent that has yet to find a home.
Wacha reportedly wants a two-year deal, but with his injury history, the second year might be what is causing teams to hesitate.
St. Louis could offer him a one-year deal with an option for 2024 and have him compete for a spot in the starting rotation if no other teams try to sign him.
