With the universal designated hitter being implemented with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement last spring, the era of pitchers hitting came to an end.
For Adam Wainwright, this was a major disappointment.
The St. Louis Cardinals starter is best known for his pitching, of course.
But he wasn’t a bad hitter in the earlier days of his career.
In fact, he hit a home run on the first pitch he ever saw back in 2006.
On Twitter, a Cardinals fan expressed his hope for a special moment to take place this coming season, with Wainwright possibly getting one more at-bat and hitting a home run in front of the Busch Stadium faithful.
I really hope Adam Wainwright hits a pinch hit HR at Busch Stadium sometime this season.
Imagine the crowd reaction

As this fan predicts, the crowd’s reaction to something like this would be quite monumental.
Cardinals fans love Wainwright for more reasons than one.
His pitching and ability to come through in the postseason are just two of them.
But fans loved seeing him take his hacks at the plate and hit some bombs back in the day.
He hasn’t hit a home run since back in 2017, and in that season, the veteran right-hander earned his first and only Silver Slugger Award.
With 2023 being Wainwright’s last season, time is running out for one final at-bat, though he has expressed interest in potentially taking his hacks one last time.
Whether or not Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol will oblige is unknown at this point, but fans are certainly hoping for one more at-bat for the two-time World Series champion and three-time All-Star.
