The St. Louis Cardinals were one of many teams that were said to be in on slugger Juan Soto at the trade deadline.
However, the Cards bowed out of the sweepstakes late on Monday night after days of negotiating with the Washington Nationals, and the San Diego Padres swooped in and acquired the slugger.
Several Cardinals fans were quite frustrated that the team failed to bring Soto aboard, as he, Josh Bell, Josh Hader, and Brandon Drury all ended up on a team that is ahead of them in the Wild Card standings.
One Cards fan on Twitter pointed this out on Tuesday prior to the trade deadline, comparing the Cardinals acquisitions to what the Padres managed to do.
The team we are chasing in the wild card got Juan Soto, Josh Hader, and Josh Bell

Cards Fan Airs Deadline Concerns
The concern is understandable, especially when it looked like the Cardinals had the prospects to make the deal happen.
But at the end of the day, the Cardinals were never going to pick up Soto, and expectations that they would were completely unrealistic.
The Cardinals have always preached faith in their prospects and have always been very conservative when it comes to trading prospects away.
It wouldn’t have made sense for the Cardinals to do it given their glaring need for pitching.
This tweet was also posted before St. Louis swung a last-minute deal with the New York Yankees to acquire Jordan Montgomery, so this take didn’t age particularly well.
The offense of the Cardinals has produced quite well this season.
The need for pitching was paramount and the Cardinals got two veteran arms that could provide the innings that they so desperately needed.
The Cards ultimately did what they had to do at the deadline and got exactly what they needed.
Soto or not, the Cardinals are better now than they were prior to the deadline.
