Back in December, the St. Louis Cardinals and Bally Sports Midwest were forced to make a tough decision after longtime broadcaster Dan McLaughlin was arrested and charged with a DWI.
McLaughlin was ultimately let go as a result, and the Cards have been searching for a new play-by-play announcer ever since.
However, the search appears to be down to two candidates, with one of them being Seattle Mariners radio announcer and St. Louis native Aaron Goldsmith.
On Twitter, a Cardinals fan posted a photo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal during their glory days with the Los Angeles Lakers to sum up just how solid of a duo Goldsmith and color analyst Brad Thompson could be.

Goldsmith would be an interesting addition to the Cardinals broadcast booth.
While McLaughlin will be sorely missed, Goldsmith does have the luxury of being a St. Louis native, and with him in the running for the job, Cardinals fans are hoping that he will ultimately be McLaughlin’s successor on Bally Sports Midwest.
Goldsmith is beloved in Seattle and would certainly be missed there, but it would be hard to imagine him passing up the opportunity to come home and broadcast Cardinals games.
The fanbase has made it clear that the idea of another St. Louis native behind the mic is an enticing one.
The Cardinals are hoping to have their next play-by-play announcer soon.
Goldsmith would be a popular hire among the fanbase.
Him joining Thompson in the booth would also make for some interesting games.
