Tommy Edman is a guy who knows how to get the job done for the St. Louis Cardinals.
On defense, he’s the leader in Defensive Runs Saved.
He can play multiple positions and provide Gold Glove caliber defense at any spot.
At the plate, he’s a catalyst for the Cards.
He gets on base and can even pop a home run or two on occasion.
So, it’ll be interesting to see if he gets a chance to be an All-Star this year.
One Cardinals fan on Twitter makes a strong case for Edman to be named to the National League All-Star team.
I would hate to see Tommy Edman miss the all-star game. The man is second in the entire league in WAR (4.5) and has been consistent for us all year both offensively and defensively….. he’s more than deserving. #STLCards

The Case
It would be a shame if Edman doesn’t make it to the All-Star Game.
He really deserves it.
He’s second in all of baseball with a 4.5 WAR.
That should count for something.
Edman is a criminally underrated star.
He certainly deserves a shot to showcase his talents in front of the entire baseball world in Los Angeles.
This is guy who can do a little bit of everything.
He can hit for average, steal bases, occasionally hit for power, and make great plays on defense.
He’s also got a decent throwing arm.
In a sense, he’s practically a five-tool player.
He’s somebody you don’t want to have on first base while you’re pitching.
He’s a threat to steal every time and he knows what it takes to come through in the clutch.
He’s been able to do that so many times and is a valuable part of this Cardinals team.
He’s one of the keys to them being so dominant on defense.
We’ll see if he ends up getting the call to the All-Star Game.

With this manager, he barely makes the Cardinals. Let him play out of this slump. Yesterday he hit the ball well but right at someone. How it took so long to put him at short-stop when DeYoung couldn’t hit was astonishing. The young man makes smart decisions in the field and on the bases. His only weakness seems to be hitting the ball the other way. With his speed that would lead to a lot of singles. Batting coach?
