There were some people who had doubts about rookie Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons.
Last year’s number one pick in the NBA Draft started off a bit inconsistent this season but he has really become a special talent rising through the ranks of the league.
And now Cunningham is showcasing his talent in moments like this one from Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Wizards.

That was the sort of dunk that definitely draws the attention of many and makes people hopeful for the future of the Pistons.
But anyone expecting Detroit to be championship contenders any time soon shouldn’t hold their breath.
Cunningham Contending
Cunningham is currently producing 16.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists a game.
Those are impressive numbers but the talent of Cunningham only really comes into focus when you see a play or dunk like the one highlighted above.
Again and again, Cunningham has had moments like that: a huge explosion on offense that shakes the rim and leaves other players on their backs.
Despite Cunningham’s incredible work and growing talent, the Pistons are still bogged down towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
The team is currently in 14th place with a record of 15-47, far away from even being in contention for the NBA Play-In Tournament.
The good news is that there are some other promising young players on the team and, within the next couple of seasons, the team really could be ready for the postseason.
They’re not there yet – even with Cunningham doing such amazing things.
For now, Detroit fans will have to be happy about Cunningham’s promise and potential but will need to wait for more than that.
