Buck Showalter is without a doubt one of the most legendary and successful managers in the history of baseball.
He is in his first season as manager of the New York Mets, and he has helped transform them from a team that regularly finished under the .500 mark to a true World Series contender.
The Mets currently hold a 79-44 record, which is just a few games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in the National League.
If the postseason began today, the Mets would be the No. 2 seed in the NL.
Tonight, the Mets open up a two-game series with their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees, and Showalter is returning to where it all started for him.
When asked about how it felt to be returning to the Bronx managing the other New York team, Showalter had this to say.
Buck Showalter was asked what it will be like returning to The Bronx as the manager of the Mets:
"Proud," he said.— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) August 21, 2022
Showalter Returns To Bronx Proud
Showalter should be proud of what he’s done as manager of the Mets.
But beyond that, his Mets actually have a better record than the Yankees.
Showalter managed the Yankees from 1992-1995 before being replaced by Joe Torre.
Torre subsequently led the Yankees to four World Series titles and six American League pennants in an eight-year stretch, while Showalter wasn’t so lucky.
Now, he returns to where it all started with a chance to make a statement against the team that fired him all those years ago.
He’s led the Mets to unimaginable heights and has a chance to lead them all the way to the World Series this year.
Meanwhile, the Yankees have been struggling.
Showalter has a chance to stick it to the Yankees this week, and you know he’s looking forward to returning to the Bronx as manager of the Mets.
