The Denver Broncos have been on an interesting trajectory over the past few weeks.
The hiring of Sean Payton as their head coach was clouded with drama, and it looks like their search for a new defensive coordinator has been fast and furious as well.
To my understanding, #Broncos request to interview Brian Flores for DC is Sean Payton being proactive in the event Ejiro Evero gets offered #Colts or #Cardinals job.
Have to have contingencies in place, but Evero is very well wanted back.

Technically, Ejiro Evero is still the Broncos’ defensive coordinator.
However, Evero has been looked at for each of the five head coaching openings and is still in the hunt for the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals jobs.
Now, the Broncos are making a follow-up plan in case Evero ends up taking one of the two available head coaching jobs.
One of their backups is Brian Flores, a well-respected coaching candidate throughout the league.
From the sounds of it, it appears that the Broncos would prefer to have Evero back in 2023, but they also understand the reality of the situation.
If Evero does accept the Colts or Cardinals job, the Broncos will not want to be blindsided, which is why they have started conducting these interviews for their DC position.
Under Evero in 2022, the Broncos defense allowed 20.7 points per game, which was the 11th-best mark in the league.
Whoever ends up as the Broncos’ DC in 2023 will inherit a defense that will be primed for another successful season.
If the offense can turn things around, the Broncos have the potential to win ten or more games next season, if everything goes according to plan.
They have a new head coach in place in Payton, who will be hungry to lead this team to victory.
