Brian Cashman Staying Quiet About Any Aaron Judge News

By Andres Chavez April 4, 2022 @andres_chavez13

eneral manager Brian Cashman talks on the phone prior to a Grapefruit League spring training game between the Washington Nationals and the New York Yankees at FITTEAM Ballpark of The Palm Beaches on March 12, 2020 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Many professional and college sports are canceling or postponing their games due to the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

New York Yankees broadcaster Carlos Beltran, who is making his debut on YES Network this year, implied that Aaron Judge may have already agreed to a new contract extension to keep him on the Yankees for the long term.

He lated corrected his remarks, but the baseball world is already speculating: has Judge put pen to paper on a new deal to stay in New York?

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, instead of quieting the speculation and the rumblings, left the door open about a potential extension with the star right fielder.

“Brian Cashman said he didn’t hear Carlos Beltran’s comments on YES. Asked if Aaron Judge has agreed to an extension, Cashman said he would not comment. Cashman also wouldn’t say if the Yankees have made an offer,” MLB.com’s beat writer Bryan Hoch tweeted on Monday.

Lots of questions, no real answers.

The Yankees’ Most Important Long-Term Piece May Be On The Verge Of Being Extended

It’s possible that the Yankees and Judge are already in agreement, but there could be details to finalize before being ready to make the official announcement.

The fact Beltran talked about a potential long-term stay is pretty telling, though.

We won’t know for sure until Cashman, or the organization, make an official announcement.

Judge is entering the final season of salary arbitration.

He asked for $21 million and the Yankees are offering $17 million, and if they don’t agree on a contract extension soon, or even his 2022 salary, they will go to an arbitration hearing.

The soon-to-be 30-year-old outfielder hit .287 in 2021, with 89 runs scored, 39 homers, 98 RBI, and a solid .917 OPS.

He is a candidate to be the next Yankees’ captain if he is extended, and remains, arguably, the best player on the Yankees’ roster.
