To say that the New York Giants‘ deal with Daniel Jones was a surprise could be a bit of an understatement.
Both parties managed to strike a deal shortly before the franchise tag deadline, and while Jones didn’t get the $45 million a year he was reportedly looking for, he still got a whopping $40 million per season.
The Giants could’ve just placed him under the tag and given him $32 million, all while having another season to work out a better deal with him.
Now — with all due respect — he seems like the most overpaid player in the league to many, and one that will have to do a whole lot to live up to that new contract.
Notably, at least, that’s what one of his colleagues seems to think.
Recently, Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker referred to Jones as ‘trash,’ noting how crazy it was that he got a deal before Lamar Jackson, who’s a former MVP.
MVP lol… other Bruh got paid today and is trash fam. #FACTS https://t.co/vCLkB6Tn4I

Needless to say, that didn’t sit well with Giants WR Darius Slayton, who clapped back at Brisker with a screenshot of the Giants’ 20-12 win over the Bears.

It’s nice of Slayton to come out and defend his teammate from an attack that was uncalled for, but once again, Jones’ contract sure makes you think.
If throwing for 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in your best season gets you $40 million a year, how much money should guys like Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts get on their next deals?
